Over 30,000 youth, women and persons with disabilities have so far applied for the Kiambu’s Biashara Trust Fund.
Speaking to reporters on Monday at his office, county Youth and Sports Executive Michael Waikenda said the short listing for successful applicants is set to commence soon.
He stated that the logistics for the exercise have been completed and that they are deliberating on a date when the exercise will start.
“We have so far received over 30,000 applicants for the Biashara Fund,” he said.
He added that vetting of the applications will be done in a fair and transparent manner as he encouraged youth to continue sending in their applications saying they have not halted receiving applications.
Waikenda said that the county government has set in place policies to ensure youths, women and disabled persons are empowered.
The Executive stated that the Biashara Fund is different from other development funds being given by the government adding that the Sh300 million fund is an initiative by the county government.
Waikenda said the fund was put in place to supplement other funds being provided by the national government and stakeholders. He encouraged youth to seek the funds which, he said, will be distributed equally to applicants from all the 60 wards in Kiambu County.
Waikenda further called on the youth to stop idling and make themselves active by engaging in development activities.
“I want to ask young people to stop wasting their time in activities that will not add value to their lives,” said Waikenda.
The county official reiterated government's support in curbing rising unemployment through creation of job opportunities.
