[Photo/Courtesy]A recent report by the Judiciary has revealed that close to 350,000 new cases were filed in various courts in 2017.A total of 344,180 cases were filed according to the state of the Judiciary report released on December 15, 2017; 258,982 were criminal cases while 85,198 were civil.They were filed between July 2016 and June 30, 2017. "In the same period, a total of 304,182 cases were concluded, comprising 218,796 criminal cases and 5,386 civil cases," said the report seen by the Nation.As he released the report, Chief Justice David Maraga said there were 533,350 pending cases and that 66,214 were matters that have been pending in court for between 5 to 10 years.He noted pending cases included 185,369 criminal and 347,981 civil cases and further affirmed Judiciary's efforts to ensure pending cases are cleared.
