Over fifty bodaboda riders in Kisumu are combing parts of South West Kisumu ward in Kisumu West constituency to ferry residents who have not register as voters to the registration centres.
The riders have landed a sponsorship that includes fuel and lunch from their MCA Joseph Abiola.
A representative of the bodaboda team, Ouko Apiyo said the initiative is the only way to increase voter uptake in the region.
“We are doing it with all our hearts, we must play a role in ensuring Raila Odinga becomes the next President of Kenya,” he said.
The bodaboda team is looking for the old, the sick and those living with disabilities who are unable to reach registration centers for IDs and voters card.
Apiyo urged other MCAs in the county to come out and replicate what is happening in South West Kisumu ward.
Speaking to the press in Kisian, Apiyo said the programme will continue until the last day of voter registration on February 14.
Kennedy Ouko, bodaboda chairman Kisumu West Sub County said he is thrilled with the initiative noting that it is the only contribution they can give to ODM party leader Raila Odinga.
Ouko said the gesture of their MCA is welcomed and urged those stuck in their houses to be ready to be ferried to the registration centres.
“If only other leaders can emulate what our MCA is doing then the target set by IEBC for Kisumu County will be realized,” he said.
This comes in the wake of backlash from members of the public who have hit at Kisumu MCAs who went to Arusha in Tanzania to bond at a time leaders are mobilizing votes.
