Over 500 residents from Machakos County received free Cancer screening during a public awareness exercise held in Machakos town on Saturday.

The one-day event held at Machakos Level Five Hospital was sponsored by the Nairobi's Zambezi Hospital in conjunction with Machakos County woman representative Joyce Kamene.

Zambezi Hospital's director Dr. Z. Mutuma, who is a Pathologist said the countrywide exercise kicked off in Machakos and will continue to other counties.

Mutuma said the programme was intended to creating awareness on Cancer alongside offering free screening to citizens across the country.

Before the screening exercise, a procession of the cancer victims and doctors was conducted on the Machakos town streets to create awareness.

Mutuma called on the residents to come out in large numbers for the screening of the killer disease for early prevention and treatment.

He said Cancer victims can be out of danger if they seek medical attention in time thereby enabling them continue with their normal lives despite costly regular clinics.

Several victims narrated their ordeal with the fatal disease and how they experience difficult lives out of expensive regular clinics they undergo on weekly basis.
