The medical camp conducted on Tuesday was organized by Echo Network Africa NGO in partnership with Kitui Health Management Team, AAR Insurance, Neema and Bliss Hospitals.

The event held at Kitui Central Primary School's grounds targeted women.

Kenya joined other countries across the globe in cellebrating the World Women Health Day last week.

The free check up involved; breast examination, training on self-examination and counseling to those who needed further testing, high blood pressure, oral health care, family care, family planning and parenting.

Speaking to this writer after they were checked, several women including Christine Ndunge from Kwa Vonza area in Kitui lauded the initiative.

They said frequent health check ups are important since they enable people know their health status and take necessary actions.

"I never knew I had High Blood pressure until I was checked today. From today henceforth, I will have to observe the right nutrition to control this disease," Ndunge said.

Echo Network Africa's General Manager for Development Division Makena Mburu promised to liaise with the Kitui County Government to analyze the data after the exercise is completed and ensure that those who require further check ups or medication get that help from the existing health structures.

"We are going to ensure that it's not just check up that we do, but we will make a follow up to ensure those that need more help get it," Mburu said.

Mburu encouraged the residents to register with NHIF as most of those services are free in the Public hospitals and it would be easier for them to get regular check ups and follow up services without paying.

This exercise will continue tomorrow in the same venue and more residents are encouraged to turn up and take advantage of the services.
