The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) will rehabilitate more than 6,000 alcoholics in the North Rift region.

Hospital Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr John Kibosia said they will partner with other stakeholders to rehabilitate the addicts.

Speaking to journalists at the hospital on Thursday, the CEO said already several addicts are undergoing treatment.

“We want to partner with other government agencies to offer help to the alcohol addicts so that they can reform and start life afresh,” he said.

The CEO said with the ongoing crackdown of illicit brews it will be important to rehabilitate the addicts adding that the hospital will offer the help it can so that the addicts can receive treatment and counselling.

The CEO stated that most addicts are suffering withdrawals as they are unable to access alcohol.

Meanwhile, County commissioner Mohammed Abdi has asked chiefs in villages to continue the crackdown.

In an interview with journalists at Huruma Grounds in Eldoret, the commissioner said the fight will go on to ensure all the alcohol is seized.

He said over 17,000 litres of brews have been destroyed in Eldoret Town since Monday this week.

He also said at least 300 people have been arrested in connection to illegal brews and alcohol and they will start appearing in court once the investigation is complete.
