The recent spate of arson attacks in schools has affected over 6,000 students, the government says.
This follows a wave of students’ unrest in the country over reasons that have not yet been established.
Some students had cited the extension of second term as the reason behind the attacks, but other stakeholders have blamed the vice on indiscipline, clan politics and teachers who have overstayed at their stations.
According to statistics, an approximate of 70 public boarding schools in Kisii, Meru, Machakos, Kericho, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Uasin Gishu, Nyamira, Siaya, Kitui, Nakuru, Migori, Muranga, Kiambu, Kilifi and Bungoma counties have been affected with reports of over 109 people arrested over the attacks.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has since directed the education sector and the police force to collaborate in establishing the cause of the attacks.
