Lake Victoria South Water services Board, Chief Manager technical services Mr. Sammy Mburu has warned that over 600,000 residents in Kisumu are at risk over lack of waste water services.
Speaking to a Hivisasa writer, Mburu said that a lot of untreated water was being released into Lake Victoria.
“The untreated water that gets into the lake is a disaster in waiting to residents of Kisumu since the lake is dependent by the aquatic life, animals and humans, “said Mburu who is also a registered Civil Engineer.
He said that the county government had plans to build a sewerage treatment facility which would be in a position to treat the raw waste deposited to the Lake.
Mburu urged the county government to hasten the process of setting up the sewerage treatment facility adding that almost 80,000 cubic metres of raw waste was being produced daily, which needed treatment.
He also urged the county government to set up more treatment plants to restraint the 80,000 cubic metres of raw waste produced in the city.
