The County government of Mombasa through the Department of Health together with the Ministry of Health on Wednesday officially commenced the mass Mosquito net distribution exercise across the six sub counties.
Over 600,000 mosquito nets are expected to be distributed to registered community members at their respective collection centres.Residents are advised to show up with their ID cards on collection. The distribution exercise is set to end by 3rd March 2018.
On Tuesday, officers from the Department of Health met to plan for the mosquito nets distribution exercise which kicked off from February 28 to March 3, 2018.
The officers were in company of Nyali and Kisauni Sub-County Administration officers, National government officers among other stakeholders.
The stakeholders discussed among other issues, how they will distribute the nets effectively; discourage misuse of the nets such as being used for fishing; and safe disposal of the mosquito nets after use.
Members of the community who were earlier registered, are expected to show up with their IDs at their respective centres ranging from primary schools, chiefs offices, and worship centres to collect the treated nets without charges.
Residents are also advised to contact their respective health officers, Sub County and ward administrators and village elders in case they have any concerns or queries regarding the mosquito nets.
The nets, will be effective in preventing diseases such as malaria, dengue fever and chikungunya virus which are spread by mosquitoes.
