Over 80 families from Kachuodho in Muhoroni Sub County have been left homeless following a heavy down pour on Sunday night in Kisumu County.
Kenya Red Cross representative in the area Emmanuel Owako said the families have no place to call home following the heavy rains that have been experienced in the area for three consecutive days.
“The families are counting heavy losses as all their belongings were swept away by the raging waters from River Nyando,” said Owako.
He noted that most of the families affected by floods are from Kisumu and Siaya counties which border the river.
“Apart from the damage caused by floods, no accidents have so far been reported in the area,” said Owako.
He called on well wishers to come to the rescue of the victims and help them get shelter and food for the time being.
For now the victims have sought refuge at place of worship as they wait for well wishers to come to their help.
The rains have been raging the Western parts of the country for several days now.
