The entrepreneurship spirit is building up in Kisumu as more women join the table banking scheme.Table banking is a group based funding system where members of a group make weekly or monthly monetary contributions to form a kitty from which members can borrow.The group holds regular meetings where issues are addressed, fines paid, loans administered and defaulters confronted.According to nominated Senator and former Kisumu Women Representative Rose Nyamunga, the concept has fully been adopted and more women in the lakeside county are venturing into business."When we began, it was difficult convincing them to join because they thought it was a scheme with bad intention," Nyamunga said Wednesday in an interview with a local radio station."But five years down the road, over 80 percent of the women in the county have joined organised groups and are pulling resources together," she added.She said now that the office of the woman representative has a budget, more cash will be loaned to the groups to enable them to start businesses.Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Kisumu County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
