In a bid to beef up security in the North Rift, the government has deployed over 1,000 National Police Reservists (NPR) in the region for the past three months.
The police reservists have been deployed in four counties that are faced with banditry and cattle rustling.
According to Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Wanyama Musiambo, more NPR will be recruited in the affected regions to ensure security is restored.
West Pokot, Laikipia and Elgeyo Marakwet counties received 200 police reservists each, Baringo North (151), Baringo South (142) while 100 were deployed in Pokot Central.
"The National Police Reservists are meant to compliment and supplement the police as we want to eradicate banditry and cattle rustling which has made many families poor," said Musiambo when addressing Chiefs from North Rift in Eldoret town, Wednesday.
He further said the NPR would work with the chiefs at the location level.
"With all the resources the government has invested in the region we expect nothing but you to deliver. We don't want to hear this stories of stolen livestock vanishing in thin air," Rift Valley Regional Commissioner told the Chiefs.
