The office of the Senator, Makueni County has allocated Sh150 million to the elderly.

Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr on October 22, said the money will be distributed to elderly people registered with government.

"I have advocated for more older persons in Makueni to be put in the national governments 'Older Persons Cash Transfer Program'," he said.

"We have thousands of aged people in the county who do not have any means of support. Since I started engaging the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, the number of beneficiaries has increased. Sh150 million has been released for the 2016 disbursement."

Those to receive the cash come from Makueni, Mbooni, Kilungu, Makindu and Kibwezi stations.

There are 6,279 beneficiaries in total he said.

"Over 6,000 old people will benefit. Makueni and Kaiti have the largest numbers," the Senator added.

"The Ministry has been allocated a specific number of old person to register each year across the country as a way of managing the registration process and budges until all are covered."

Each person gets Sh24,000 per year disbursed bi-monthly.

Orphans and people with severe disability are also covered by the programme.
