Former ODM Party leader Raila Odinga's aide Eliud Owalo has accused the top leadership of a wider scheme to install Odinga's daughter Ruth Odinga as the party's candidate in Kibra constituency ahead of the 2017 polls.
In a written application titled ‘Scheme to Impose Ms Rosemary Odinga on the People of Kibra Constituency’, Owalo claimed that a reliable source had indicated to him of this elaborate plan, warning that such a move would see the party lose its moral authority in the push for free, fair and transparent polls.
"I am perturbed at objectively verifiable reports that there is an elaborate scheme to impose Ms Rosemary Odinga on the good people of Kibra Constituency as the ODM parliamentary candidate for purposes of the 2017 General Elections," Owalo wrote in his memo.
"If indeed there are such plans, then, with a lot of disdain, one is left wondering the rationale behind the recent invitation by the party for prospective candidates for all elective positions to submit their applications, if the party nominees for certain positions, including but not limited to Kibra Constituency, have already been arbitrarily decided beforehand," he added.
Owalo's letter sent to the ODM Party on Thursday was addressed to the party leader Raila Odinga. The Kibra parliamentary race has attracted a lot of stuff competition.
With Owalo set to battle it out with the incumbent MP Ken Okoth and Raila Odinga's daughter Rose Odinga for the ODM ticket.
