Former Raila Aide, Eliu Owalo has decried the poor sanitation in Kibera and has called upon the county government to work on it.
Owalo said that drainage systems in the slum were in a poor condition which was posing serious health risks to the residents. He noted that Olypmic area and Toi were experiencing serious health risks caused by poor drainage systems following the rains that have already started in the county.
Speaking on Thursday when she toured the places he observed that the county emergency funds and other funds set aside to improve the living status. He added that the residents risk being infected by water-borne diseases such as cholera among others if the situation will not be addressed.
“We are urging both the county and national governments to move with speed and help in arresting the situation before residents get contaminate diseases from the filthy stagnating water,” he added.
He suggested that funds recovered by the government from alleged corrupt individuals should also be spent in improving the drainage systems across the country instead of returning the money to the Central Bank of Kenya.
