Former Raila Odinga aide Eliud Owalo has warned that ODM will lose its credibility in fighting for democracy should party leader Raila Odinga rig his daughter Rosemary Odinga to the people of Kibra constituency.
According to the management consultant and Raila’s 2013 general elections strategist, there is an elaborate scheme by Raila to plant his daughter Rosemary onto the people of Kibra constituency as ODM’s 2017 candidate.
He lamented that ODM would lose its moral authority in advocating for credible and impartial elections with IEBC if the party does not conduct well its own primaries.
“With all the pre-requisite humility and based on the catastrophic consequences of botched ODM nominations in the past, which are well within your knowledge, my plea to the party is to accord the people of Kibra and any other else for that matter, their inalienable democratic right to elect leaders as per the dictates of the constitution,” he said as quoted by the Star.
"If indeed there are such plans, then with a lot of disdain, one is left wondering about the rationale behind the recent invitation by the party for prospective candidates for all elective positions to submit their applications," he added in his letter.
Although she has not publicly declared her interest in the Kibra constituency seat, Rosemary’s recent actions have intimated that she is targeting to inherit the seat her father initially held as Langata constituency MP.
