The students who protested over the re-election of Owino accused him of manipulating votes. Owino won the university chairmanship seat with 18,000 votes against his opponent who scored 3,000 votes.

Mark Makori, a student at the university said Owino’s victory raised many questions since many students had vowed not to support him.

On Monday, the students burned the SONU offices over what they called a protest, whereby, Owino was not supposed to occupy the office again. The police, however, got the matter under control and warned the students against holding protests.

The students vowed to continue pushing for the cancelation of the votes.

‘‘Babu Owino manipulated the votes. I cannot tell how but what I know is that very few people voted him. He has money and maybe he paid the people to vote for him. We know him. He either goes or we’ll go,’’ said one of the university students.
