Simon Everett, as he was later identified, surrendered to the officers after learning that they were looking for him.

He contacted detectives on Thursday, last week, saying the Kenya Maritime officers are free to inspect the vehicle at any time.

"The vessel has been approved by the US Coastguard and is available for inspection at your convenience for compliance with Kenya regulations," he said, as quoted by The Star.

The luxurious vessel, which is meant for private use, has been ferrying domestic as well as foreign tourists at the Jomo Kenyatta public beach.

On his part, KMA acting director general Cosmas Cherop said it is important for investors to follow the laws of the land to avoid issues with the relevant authorities.

"Let us respect human and marine life. Officers are on the ground. Let then them finish their findings," said Cherop.

According to The Star a section of businessmen and politicians in the county have approached Mr Everett, seeking to buy the vessel which is said to be valued at Sh26,641,569.
