The man who owned a five-storey building that collapsed in Mwembe area, Kisii county has been charged with 7 counts of manslaughter.

The accused Elijah Mokono Ombati appeared before area senior principal magistrate N. S Lutta, he with others not before the court were charged that on October 11 negligently caused the death of 7 people,  Thadeus Ayuma, Albert Ontoro, Jacob Omaria, Zephania Ogeto, Athanus Isoi, Walter Michira, and Leah Kwamboka.

The accused was first arraigned in court on October 17 and denied all charges.

Ombati was released on a Sh1 million bond with two sureties. The hearing of the case was scheduled for May 21, 2018.
