Police on Wednesday afternoon arrested the owner of the building that collapsed last week.
Mr Jeremiah Matoke is the owner of the building that killed 8 people while leaving scores injured.
Matoke handed himself to the police where he was locked up awaiting to be arraigned in court on Thursday.
While speaking to the media, Kisii Deputy Criminal Investigations Officer Mr Charles Mwangi said that police have been trailing Mr Matoke since last week,
“We may file murder charges against the suspect," said Mwangi.
Speaking to members of the press, Kisii Governor James Ongwae emphasized the importance of building owners and engineers following the prescribed standards during building construction to avoid such catastrophes from recurring.
The engineer of the building has also recorded statements with the police who are still conducting an investigation into the incident.
Residents of Kisii are however still startled on how five more floors were built in the same building designed to be a 5 story building only.
