Speaking to the press in Kisii town, Tong’i argued that the committee’s responsibility was to put the government on check over expenditure and not embezzling public funds.

However, the MP said the Ababu Namwamba-led team should be heard before taking action on corrupt individuals.

“Let the Ababu Namwamba team be given time to defend themselves, and those who will be found culpable, be held accountable. Their role was a watchdog and therefore, any financial impropriety cases cannot be tolerated,” argued Tong’i.

“Also judgment should be to individuals and not to the group, since there are some who might be innocent in the whole saga,” added the MP.

He however said the dignity of the house is intact and said they would not allow the PAC saga to mud the house.

On the other hand, the one year old Member of Parliament in the August house condemned the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) for cancelling exam results of some schools from Kisii County, saying that there is a hidden agenda behind the same.

He accused KNEC of recklessness, since they handle examination matters, and said they should have postponed the release of the exams till they solve the pertinent issues regarding to irregularities during examination as mounted to other schools that are yet to know their fate.

“It isquite unfair to punish students who are innocent, tasking parents who struggle to raise and pay school fees for their children,” he said.

“If the allegations that some of the national examination officials were demanding bribes from principals to give favours to their schools is anything to go by, they should be known and get judged,” reiterated the MP.

Kisii leaders are slated to have a meeting in Nairobi, this week with the Education CS Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi and KNEC officials, to deliberate and get clarification on what made some schools get Y’s and others’ results upheld.

Kisii High and Nyakoiba are some of the schools whose results were nullified, while Nyabururu Girls students’ results are still upheld.
