A Pakistan national was on Tuesday charged before a Kisumu Court with being in the country illegally.

Ramil Azul denied the charges before Chief magistrate Esther Maina.

Azul was arrested on the June 5 in Kisumu with expired papers allowing his stay in the country. He was arrested after producing expired temporary visas at a police road block in Kisumu.

Azul is a student doing his research in the country and according to the prosecution, his temporary visa expired in April this year.

The prosecution told the court that the accused had not made any effort to renew the documents allowing his stay in the country.

Azul, however, told the court that he was yet to complete his research which was consuming a lot of his time; therefore he did not have spare time to visit immigration offices.

Additionally, Azul told the court that he does not have knowledge of the location of immigration offices because his work involves going to different parts of the country.

The prosecution asked the court to subject the accused to maximum punishment for being negligent.

Justice Maina ordered the accused to visit the immigration offices and get the necessary documents within the next seven days.

He will return to the court next week on Tuesday for the determination of the case as it was treated as urgent.

Elsewhere, a woman was on Wednesday morning charged before a Kisumu Law court for assaulting her neighbour.

Mary Ayuma denied the charges before Winam resident magistrate Philip Otieno for the offence committed on the May 30.

Ayuma is accused of assaulting her neighbour in Kondele, Kisumu County following a disagreement over water usage. She is alleged to have attacked Vivian Ochieng with a wooden stick injuring her in the process.

Ochieng sustained head, back and leg injuries that led to her hospitalisation for a day.

Justice Otieno released the accused on a cash bail of Sh10, 000 with a surety of a similar amount pending the hearing of the case on the July 10.
