According to Mombasa Lands CeC Antony Njaramba, around 426 prime properties, including TSS Towers and Splendid Hotel will be targeted during the exercise.

Njaramba pointed out that government institutions and ministries owe the county government Sh6 million in land rates.

The states corporations that are yet to clear their land rates include Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) and Kenya Railways Corporation.

The exercise will see various investors lose their property for failing to pay their land rates as stipulated by law.

“We have clamped 426 properties as at Monday. We have so far recovered Sh50 million in the process,” said Njaramba, as quoted by the Standard.

“The notices express our intention to take over management of the buildings. The owners can still rush and pay,” he said.

He affirmed that they will seize the property and start collecting rent from the tenants until they recover the cash.

The exercise will go on until they fully recover the unpaid land rates.
