Panick gripped residents of Stima Line Estate in Nakuru West after an oil pipeline that crosses the area burst open spilling petroleum.
The incident which began at around 10am left traders scared in the nearby weavers market and a section of terrified residents scampering for safety even as some moved near the scene.
Some residents interviewed by this writer expressed fear over their safety and blamed the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) for not moving fast to stop the spillage.
"This spillage began a long ago and yet it has not been stopped. Where is Kenya Pipeline?" wondered Paul Mbuthia.
Rose Akinyi admitted that she was mulling over vacating the area for fear of a fire accident and health concerns.
However, the cause of the pipeline burst remains unknown as no official from the pipeline company could be reached for comment.
Up to the time of going to press fuel was still spilling forming rivulets in the process.
