Members of Parliament have raised concern over their security in Parliament. This is because it is being handled by 'outsiders' who are neither from the National Police Service nor the Kenya Defence Forces. Rarieda MP, Nicholas Gumbo on Tuesday put the Parliamentary Service Commission(PSC) chaired by the speaker, Justin Muturi to explain who they are. "The guards were first wearing NYS uniforms then started wearing yellow reflector jackets and now they are in suits. We should be told who these people are and whom they report to," Gumbo said. He also added that they feel their security is in jeopardy and privacy invaded as the 'unknown' men inspect their vehicles and also order their bodyguards to disembark from vehicles raising concerns on the level of their influence.Speaker Muturi, who chairs the PSC, ordered the commission to give a detailed explanation on recruitment training they have gone through. He also informed that the security personnel started manning the gates to Parliament last year and appeared to sideline GSU officers who had been in charge of security and were brought in as a replacement for police officers who reportedly declined to "stand at the gate all the time. Muturi also took issues with the Rarieda legislator for claiming that a commission he chairs could be jeopardising their security.
