Kisii county senator Prof Sam Ongeri has urged Kenyans to pardon the IEBC officials who allegedly abetted the illegalities and irregularities mentioned in the Supreme Court ruling on the presidential petition.

The ODM senator called upon Kenyans to put the past behind them and focus on electing the NASA leader Mr Raila Odinga.

This comes after the Supreme Court nullified the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta, and ordered a fresh presidential election within 60 days.

However, top NASA leaders have been calling for a reconstitution of the electoral body claiming it cannot oversee the repeat presidential election following its indictment by the court over the bungled August 8 polls.

But Ongeri said though the IEBC officials may have committed a crime, there is a need for Kenyans to shift gears and forgive them.

“Let’s forgive them, turn over a new page in the spirit of reconciliation and vote overwhelmingly for Mr. Odinga as our fifth president,” he added.

Prof Ongeri who led NASA supporters in welcoming Raila in Kisii on Tuesday said that they will stand with him until he becomes the Head of State.

He said it was apparent a majority of Kenyans voted for Odinga in the annulled elections.

“Let us all go out and campaign aggressively ahead of the election to ensure Odinga wins resoundingly,” he said.

Raila has held a series of rallies in the region as he looks forward to solidifying support.
