A man released from jail on Friday was arrested on Saturday after he was caught allegedly stealing from a church offering basket in Laikipia West.
26-year-old Lucas Ngugi Njoroge had been pardoned by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Mashujaa Day as a pretty offender.
The Nyahururu GK Prison ex-convict became the element of suspicion at the Ol Jabet African Independent Pentecostal Church where he reportedly rose during the offertory time pretending to make a contribution.
According to Nation, Njoroge dipped his hand into the collection basket but took out Sh900 instead of dropping his contribution.
He was however rescued by Assistant Chief Charles Ngunjiri from worshipers who wanted to beat him up after he confessed his crime.
