Parents in North Eastern region accepting goats, cash to solve rape cases locally have been put on notice.
North Eastern regional coordinator Mohamud Saleh said parents whose children have been defiled are accepting goats and cash as compensation to solve the cases locally.
Saleh warned that anyone found defending rapists will be arrested and prosecuted.
“Rapists should be arrested and surrendered to authorities for court processing. Parents who are accepting cheap cash and goats as compensation to stop reporting the rape cases in court are frustrating efforts to get justice for the victims,” he said.
He urged local government officers to be more vigilant to report rape cases to police whenever it happens.
“Local chiefs deep in villages should have to more vigilant because they are the government’s eyes at the village level. Rapists should face the law and no mercy for the purpose of keeping minors safe,” said Saleh.
