A group of parents from Ritibo village have appealed to the government to sack head teachers who have been soliciting them for money.

These solicitations from them despite the government offering free primary education.

Today, after an emergency meeting with the Ritibo Primary head teacher Peter Monubi, they voiced their dissatisfaction over the alleged ‘development’ fee still charged by the institution’s management.

“My layman understanding is that the government has been paying fees for our primary school pupils since 2003. However, I am mesmerized that our pupils can still be chased out school due to the so called development funds,” said Abel Nyakundi, a parent.

He said the impunity was not only executed in that institution but also in several other primary schools in the area.

“Ritibo Primary is just a sample of what happens in our rural institutions. Many parents have been defrauded by these school heads and that is why we want the government to step in and solve the crisis,” Nyakundi added.

However, the institutions head Peter Monubi denied these claims saying that he had sent students home to collect the fee for an examination that they did last year without paying.

“Those complaints are null and void. They want to hide in the name of free education, not knowing that internal exams are not paid for by the government. I am not aware of sending pupils home for developmental money,” Monubi said.
