The Director of The Elimu Academy in Kisii town Mrs Hellen Kombo has decried cases where some parents from the region reprimand their children to stick to their education curriculum and not any other extracurricular activity leading to wastage of various talents among school children.

Speaking to the press at her office after the conclusion of the school's annual fun day, Mrs Kombo challenged parents to give their children room to discover and nurture their talents in various fields.

She said children's development and growth does not only depend on education but involves holistic growth.

"I am warning parents from the Gusii region in particular to give their children freedom to discover and exploit their talents in extracurricular activities for them to grow holistically. It is on this basis we as The Elimu Academy decided to introduce a fun day for our pupils, teachers, parents and other stakeholders to interact and share the fun on various extra-curricular activities as part of talent identification and promotion among our learners," said Kombo.

She said the fun day does not only help discover pupils’ talents in various fields, but also facilitates the management to discover various leadership potentials and skills among children.

She said the fun day also provided a platform through which pupils build their self-esteem and personality in public speaking and presentation skills which are not only in demand in the public sector but also in the fast changing corporate world.
