Speaking during the closure of a career advice week at the Kenya Methodist University, Nakuru campus on Sunday, Gilbert Wandera, a don from the university called on parents to stop abandoning their children when it comes to making career choices.

“Parents must be an important factor when it comes to career choice making for their children because they the people who understand their children well and they can offer the best advice to their children which will help them in choosing the best career,” he said.

Wandera said that most parents do not participate in shaping the destiny of their children as far as career choices are concerned.

He said that parents are in a much better position to advice their children on which career path they should take basing on their performance since primary school days as well as their strength in life.

He added, “Letting our children make career choices on their won without parental advice and guidance often leads to wrong career choices and this is something which can be avoided only if parents went further and helped their children in this sector.”

Wandera reminded parents that it was not enough just paying school fees for their children saying that it would be a big waste if the school fees yields no fruits as a result of wrong career choices.
