This is especially now that Chania River has overflown to prevent disasters and risking lives.

Murugi who visited the river on Monday noted that it was a risky scene adding that the most affected area neared the bridge where children are used to cross.

The residents have also been warned over farming near or fetching water in the river to avoid risking lives.

"Our children will be resuming to school tomorrow and parents should take caution of the rivers they are crossing, we should all be mindful of our current weather situation and work towards preventing loss of lives," said Murugi.

The river which joins Kariminu river to pump water to Ndakaini dam that later distributes water to Nairobi is six metres deep and now full of water.

Motorists have also been cautioned against veering near the bridge which is also almost fully covered by water.

Murugi told parents to liaise with school heads and teachers to organize on how safe children will be going to school.

The officer added that time had come that residents harvest enough water for dry season urging them to massively plant trees as a way of conserving the environment.
