Thika parents have been asked to be applying for birth certificates early to avoid the last-minute rush when the documents are required especially during the registration of KCPE exams.
Speaking in his office on Tuesday, Thika sub-county education officer Ephantus Micheni noted that many parents in the area have a tendency of waiting till their kids get to class 8 to start rushing.
"It is very unfortunate that some pupils end up being forced to repeat class seven because they did not have birth certificates during the exam registration time. Parents should not be the ones inconveniencing their children by not getting them the necessary documents on time," said Micheni.
He added that birth certificates can now be applied easily and faster at the newly opened Huduma Centre in Thika town and parents have no excuse to delay or not have the vital documents for their children.
"The Huduma Centre is among other services issuing birth certificates and the process that used to be lengthy and tiresome is now much easier," he said.
The education officer said that pupils who are forced to postpone their exams for another year due to the parents misdoings lose morale and may not perform well even after they finally sit for those exams.
