Parents at the Coast should be in the fore front in the fight against drug abuse among their children by supporting recovering drug users within their families.
The parents have been further urged to love and accept back former drug users who have undergone treatment and rehabilitation programmes at the Reachout rehabilitation centre in Likoni, Mombasa.
Speaking during drug abuse mitigation forum among the youth in Mombasa on Monday, Reachout Center Trust Executive director Taib Abdulrahman said that parents discriminate against their children even after they have shown interest of distancing themselves from abusing drugs.
According to Taib, it is through parents’ dedication and support that their children will completely be cleaned of drug abuse disease and become useful people in the society.
He said that rehabilitation process needs a lot of support, counseling and advice from parents so that the former addicts can fully recover.
“As parents one thing that should come into your mind is that these are our children and we should do everything possible to bring them back to their senses, they have been struggling to disentangle themselves from the menace," he appealed.
Taib said that if parents fully support Reachout Center Trust efforts of helping out many youth doing drugs at the Coast then the fight will be a success.
“During the three to four month rehabilitation program at Reachout rehabilitation center in Likoni, parents and relatives should visit the drug users who have decided to deter from abusing drugs, it helps in the healing process,” he added.
Taib urged parents whom their children were helped out of abusing drugs to ensure that they do not relapse into the menace again but instead assist them become economically stable and recollect their lost days in life.
