[Photo:nation.co.ke]Parents have been asked to ensure that their children do not join illegal sects or other criminal groups by monitoring their daily activities closely during this festive season.Peter Muiyela, Makongeni Chief in Kiambu County while speaking in a public meeting on Wednesday in Makongeni market lamented over the increasing number of youths joining crime in the area.“It is disheartening to see even school-going children getting into crime and getting jailed for many years. Parents must maintain a closer look at their children's activities,” said the chief.Speaking in the same area, Paul Kamau a businessman in the market urged the residents to stop hiding criminal elements among them.“We have to make our security here better. We know the criminals amongst us, why can't we write their names and put them in the suggestion boxes at our chiefs' office?'' Said Kamau. The area chief advised the residents that it will be very hard to achieve any development in the area if the security situation continues to remain in shambles.
