Kung'u also wants the various ward bursary committees to do the same saying that the current criteria by the committees do not give the desired results.

Kung'u, speaking at Kenyatta Girls High School in Makongeni on Wednesday during a parents and education stakeholders meeting, said that the current criteria end up with many underfunded students who sometimes cut short their learning and go home because they cannot raise the balance.

"As an association we have noted that there are many things that need to change in the way bursary funds are awarded in this sub-county," said Kung'u.

He added: "There's no need of awarding bursaries to so many students who cannot raise the balance and end up being at home anyway. If we can fund some selected few completely, that would be wise."

Kung'u also asked that the bursaries be allocated fairly only to the neediest students and shutting out those that are capable of paying their fees.
