Parents of Masongo primary school in Kisii County have blamed the deteriorating performance of the school on the excessive drinking of teachers.
They have further accused the teachers of giving personal matters first priority than their profession, resulting to poor academic performance from the pupils.
According to the Chairman of Parents association in the area, Rashid osano, the rate of school dropouts has increased where girls get early pregnancies and marriages and boys venture into bodaboda business, posing a threat to education standards of the area.
Speaking in Kisii on Monday, Osano called on the mistry of education to take action on the teachers and ensure they arrest the situation that is slowly getting out of hand.
“We are now calling upon the ministry of education through the Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi to intervene and take the necessary action," said Osano.
They further claimed that the teachers who are almost retiring and alcohol addicts are in most cases the ones posted to the area schools, saying there do not add any academic value.
