They said Kenya National Examination Council should extend the deadline to enable them acquire birth certificates for their children who are due for KCPE examinations this year.

Led by the area MCA Fredrick Muthoka, the residents said it was difficult for them to acquire the document since there is no Registrar of Persons office in Kathiani Sub County.

Muthoka said the residents spend a lot of money and time to travel to Machakos town in search of birth certificates for their children.

He said most of the parents and guardians from the ward will not meet the registration deadline set by the Education Ministry due to long queues at the Registrar of Persons offices in Machakos town which is hundred of kilometers away.

Muthoka addressed the residents during a public baraza in Mitaboni market on Thursday.

“It's race against time and the residents are under pressure running up and down to ensure they get their kids' birth certificate," Muthoka said.

“It takes two to three weeks to succeed in having this vital document and it's evident that many parents won't be able to beat the deadline,"he added.

Muthoka urged the government to be considerate and extend the deadline in a bid of ensuring all the class eight pupils are registered.

He said the government should devolve all its departments to ease services access among the locals.

The same problem is being experienced by parents in Matungulu, Kangundo and Mwala Sub Counties, who have called on the government to devolve the services in a bid of making them closer to the people.
