Parents from Nyamira County on Tuesday called for recruitment of enough ECDE teachers to cater for rising demands from public schools.
In a meeting held on Tuesday, a group of parents from Riamoni Primary School said the increasing population of pupils enrolled in nursery schools has made it impossible for a single teacher to handle them.
They said many youths who had trained in the profession from accredited colleges were still unemployed despite their skills being in dire need by area residents.
“We have witnessed an exponential enrolment to nursery schools probably due to free primary education. This has made it impossible for a single teacher to handle such a big population alone,” said Martin Monyancha, a parent.
According to Monyancha, only a few schools were able to get ECDE teachers and the recruitment exercise by the county government did not take into consideration the population of pupils in schools that benefited.
“It is a good thing that our county government has been able to recruit teachers, unfortunately they never considered the population of pupils in specific schools,” added Monyancha.
These parents asked the county leadership to address the matter expeditiously before it escalates.
“We know that the county is capable of absorbing more teachers because they have that power. We hope they will do it as soon as possible,” said the parents.
