Nyamira Senator Kennedy Mong'are Okong'o has dismissed Education Cabinet secretary Fred Matiang'i's directive to end the ongoing student unrest in secondary schools.
The legislator said roadside directives that include asking parents to pay for the damage caused by students are not implementable as they do not have any protection of the law.
"Matiang'i's roadside detectives to parents to pay for damages caused are not implementable as the law doesn't protect it," said the Senator.
Kisii County has been experiencing a spate of student unrest recently that have seen property worth millions destroyed.
"It's wrong to punish innocent parents for the misconducts of adolescents," noted Okong'o.
The CS has already directed that parents of the affected schools be asked to pay for the destruction students cause in their schools when they go on the rampage.
The Senator was speaking this to this writer on the phone on Wednesday evening from Nairobi.
