Two parents were on Wednesday afternoon arraigned in a Kisii Court charged with denying their children the right to education.
The parents Edward Ongoi and Ann Moraa Ongoi were accused of withdrawing their two daughters from Daraja Mbili primary school.
The parents denied committing the offence at Daraja Mbili village in Kisii central Sub-county between May 1, and June 22, this year before Kisii Senior Resident Magistrate, Boaz Otieno.
They were later released on a Sh50,000 bond or a cash bail of a similar amount until August 4, this year when the case will be mentioned.
The court ordered that the two children be placed at Kisii children’s home pending a report from the children’s department.
Speaking outside the court, Kisii Central OCPD, Tom Mutisya said the tow underage girls had been rescued from various abuse situations, including female genital mutilation and early marriages.
“I call upon all parents to ensure their children receives the best education as the world is evolving,’’ he said.
