Two parents have been charged by a Mavoko Law Court in Machakos County for child neglect.

Everlyne Kwamboka and David Maracha were charged with child neglect after their children were allegedly arrested and remanded at Athi River Police Station on the November 15 for allegedly stealing power cables, property of the Kenya Power Company.

The minors aged 12 and 13 are primary school pupils in two different schools were arrested by passers-by stealing the wires at Mavoko Primary School and handed to the police.

The parents were later arraigned in court on the November 25 and charged with neglecting children in need of care and protection contrary to Section 119(1)(d) of the Children Act No.8 2001.

Justice L.A Mumassabba said, "I have heard investigations officer's sentiments. Let the parents of the minors herein be charged with child neglect.”

The minors were committed at Machakos Rescue centre and the case will be mentioned on December 10.
