With the repeat elections forcing the school calendar to make closing dates in October, parents are now complaining of an elongated school holiday.
The parents say that the long holiday may result to high dropout rates and teen pregnancies.
According to National Parents Association chairman Nicholas Maiyo, the two-month holiday is quite long and there should be other ways devised to see that students do not veer off their academic path.
"The changes mean children will be at home for more than two months which is quite a long period."
"We urge parents to take extra care of their children during that period to prevent pregnancy and abuse of drugs and alcohol," Maiyo added.
Schools will close on October 24, just two days before the repeat polls.
