Parents in Garissa have raised concerns about the national exams aiming that they are a way of intimidating their children.
Speaking in Garissa on Tuesday, the parents said the national examinations are not fair and they do not favor children from marginalized areas like Garissa.
“How does a child who studies in the best schools compete with our kids who hardly see a teacher a whole day in class? We have been sidelined by the government and this is the reason our children are not performing well,” said Issack Abdi.
They want the government to scrap of exams in Garissa until education sector achieves the quality standard of other counties like Nairobi.
“Our children go through a lot before they sit for their national exams. They do not have the necessary requirements including books and teachers to foster their education,” said Abdi Hassan.
They also outlined insecurity as one of the setbacks of education.
“We face a lot of insecurity cases in the region something the government has not fully looked into them. Teachers are deployed and they leave for fear of their lives,’’ said Mary Teresia.
