Nakuru town was on Thursday a beehive of activities as parents and students made their back-to-school shopping.Parents seemed to have ignored the education CS Fred Matiangi announcements and gone ahead with their usual activities not remembering early reporting of school for their children. The parents however complained of high cost of school items.“Last year a time like this I bought these uniforms at a much lower price, right now I will have to send my kid back to school with less items. The money I had could only cater for most essential things,” Dennis Kamau, a parent said.Lydia Wanjiku, a uniform seller at School Uniform Centre, however blamed the appreciation on taxation.“In this financial year, a VAT was introduced on most stocks thus the high price,” she said without divulging more. The high price of other school items though could not be fully substantiated only attributing it to the forces of demand and supply
