Matiangi seems to have gained favor with the parents following the impromptu school visits where he fished out rogue teachers.
Parents in Kisii have distanced him from school unrests and destruction of properties observed saying it wasn’t the cabinet secretaries doing.
They said they don’t see how Matiangi is linked to the burning of schools yet all he has done is try and bring sanity to the education sector.
“I don’t see the connection between Matiang'i and school unrests. In what we understand from our children, it is especially the teachers who harass them and discriminate them. We should not be shifting focus from where we should actually be concentrating and blaming the CS for the mess,” said Antony Munene.
He added that the burning of 8 dormitories in Iterio Boys high School after they were denied to watch a football match does not link the Education Cabinet Secretary to the mess in anyway.
They claim the linking of school unrests to Matiangi is cheap politics and a way of running away from the reality so that we can find someone to shift the blame to.
“Matiang'i is the best education cabinet secretary we have ever had and we all know that. I assume some individuals are only jealous that the daring secretary is doing good work that they themselves failed to do and want to brand the CS a failure,” said Charles Wafula.
Education cabinet secretary has been in the limelight following increased cases of school unrests with the recent attack from the ODM leader Raila Odinga who said Matiangi’s way of administration is to blame for the student unrests.
The parents claim there are other forces other than the education cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi contributing to school unrests.
“Our children nowadays have lacked good role models and morals. We have held them so fragile that everything they request we give them and if we fail, we have taught them to go for it,” said Nelson Nyakangi.
