The state at which the dormitories are being constructed has left many parents with fear for the safety of their children if a fire breaks while the students are asleep.

According to the parents who spoke to this writer on Monday at Itibo Boys where fire gutted one dormitory, they said that the dormitories are not friendly to the students in case of emergencies.

Mr Stephen Nyarang’i who is eyeing a parliamentary seat in Kitutu Chache North said that the states of dormitories in schools are not friendly in case of emergency.

For instance, he said that the dorm which was burned at Itibo had one exit door with all windows grilled.

“This is a total mess how can a dormitory be built this way, we need to address this issue so that in case of an emergency our students can be able to escape,” he said.

He challenged leaders to help the schools with CDF funds in constructing friendly dormitories which will be safe for the children.

Salome Nyasimi also a parent said that they thank God for his grace that no students were injured during the incident but challenged the management of schools and leaders to have measures by building better dormitories.
