The Kenya National Parents Association (KNPA) chairman Nicholas Maiyo has faulted the new 2018 fee structure released by the Ministry of Education for secondary schools.
He said it was unfair since the Jubilee government promised to offer free secondary education come January 2018.
"The new fees structure will not reduce the burden on parents, the government should revise the released fees structure since it’s still a big burden to parents," he said in Eldoret town, Monday.
"Why are we shortchanged yet we voted for the Jubilee government overwhelmingly, PS Belio Kipsang should review the fees structure in accordance with the Jubilee manifesto," he added.
He reiterated that the fees for county and extra county schools are too high and unaffordable for many parents leading to many students not going to school.
“We are calling upon President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto to intervene before things get out of hand,” noted Maiyo.
