More than forty parents and guardians from Nyaronge village in Nyamira County have constituted a group whose objective is to improve education standards in the area that has dwindled in recent years due to rampant cases of school dropouts.

According to Mzee Julius Tendeka, each member of the group will be remitting Sh2000 a month that will be submitted to one parent per month solely for paying school fees on a rotational basis.

“It was our decision of constitute this group so that it will be easier for us to decisively deal with fee payments. We will be paying Sh2000 that will be given to a specific parent at the end of the month,” said the former Principal of academic power house Alliance High School.

He said the move will combat rampant cases of children dropping out of school due to their parents’ inability to pay for their school fees.

“If we remain focused them we will be able to drastically reduce cases of children abandoning their studies at a tender age.  Although the amount may not be sufficient, we will try to reach philanthropic organizations for further aid,” he added.

Tendeka urged area political leadership to support such initiatives so that the area can be a center of academic excellence by producing large number of students joining public universities.

“Our political leaders should step in to help us upgrade our educational standards. This `is not solely our responsibility since they also have a part to play,” he said.

The group aims to enable more than five hundred students from the region and neighborhood acquire a basic degree to face the ever dynamic job market.

They named the group Nyaronge self help group.
