Parents have welcomed a move by the government to allow supplementary exams for pupils who could not sit for their exams due to various issues. This is after President Uhuru Kenyatta directed the Education ministry to set special supplementary examinations for students who had difficulties sitting the examinations during the normal calendar.“These special examinations may be undertaken by students who may be ill, lose their parents, or give birth during the normal examinations calendar,” State House spokesman Manoah Esipisu said in a statement.

John Maina, a parent, said the move was the best thing to ever happen in our education sector.

"Many students fail to sit exams due to different compassionate reasons. Uhuru has scored a major one here by giving these pupils a lifeline," Maina said.

While announcing the move, Esipisu said that is the trend nationally and Kenya had been left behind.
